A Walk Down Memory Lane
My friend from Elementary School sent this to me. Growing up half Brasilian but looking like I am all Swede wasn't always easy you know. It was kinda like have an identity crisis - I wanted to be Latin but no one took me seriously. =) Anyway, I was so happy to have my girl Xuxa around, you see she is ALL Brasilian and blond and blue eyed just like me. When I went to Brasil as a little girl they nicked name me Xuxinha which means "little Xuxa". Xuxa - You're my girl!

Can't believe a year has come and gone! I'm so happy Danny and I are on this eternal adventure together. And although he almost never finds his way to this seriously awesome blog (ESPN.com is somehow much more entertaining) I am still going to tell him I love him on this here blog anyway. RIP 7/4/1990 - 11/16/2007
Tomorrow is the day. =( Shadow Marie Childers will go to Heaven at 7pm November 16, 2007. She came to live with us July 4, 1990. She has always been a very unique dog - she is after all a mix between probably half a dozen breeds including a dashound and black lab. Shadow is feisty and has a yappy annoying bark -this cannot be denied - but Shadow is also the most loyal dog to her owners. My mom always talks about how when her dad died she cried all night and it was Shadow who sat by her side the whole time. Shadow is also a very intelligent dog. Of course lots of dogs can understand their owners when they say "lets go for a walk", right? The dog starts to wag their tail in excitement and dashes to the front door for their walk - But Shadow
can spell. I am not kidding! Trying to be more discreet we would say/spell "who is going to take S-h-a-d-o-w for a w-a-l-k?" And Shadow would know exactly what was going on. There is almost a human quality to Shadow. If I had to pick one human that was most like our Shadow it would probably be Nancy Grace. They both have that no nonsense, spit fire attitude and they are not scared to attack someone they disagree with. Don't worry Shadow - All Dogs Go to Heaven.My thoughts are turned to her today. I will spend the night looking over all her pictures and remembering life with her. I will be sure to feed her special treats (lots and lots of them) and take her for one last walk.

USMA Class of 1963
Captain Stephen A Childers
Captain Stephen Andrew Childers is my Uncle. I have never met him but I am sure proud to be his niece. Uncle Steve went to The United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point and graduated in 1963. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, or The Wall, and in honor of this the USMA Class of 1963 gathered in Washington, DC to honor their 20 classmates who died in the Vietnam War. What an honor to be with these men, they are truly Officers and Gentleman. I was fascinated to meet people who knew my Uncle. I have never really meet anyone who knew my Uncle besides my dad, aunt, and grandmother. It was a wonderful experience, and probably a once in a lifetime experience, to hear stories and recall memories with these fine men. We gathered at the Army Navy Country Club and took charter buses to The Wall. At the Wall we had a special Ceremony where an Escort (a 1963 graduate) and a family member to the fallen solider came up and were presented with 2 roses - one to lay at The Wall and the other for the family to keep in remembrance of this day. We prayed together, the Colors were presented, Taps was played, and a fellow classmate sang God Bless America. It was a very moving moment when the whole crowd joined in singing God Bless America. Words were shared by a few of the classmates. One shared that the rain was appropriate because it was memorable to the weather they experienced in Vietnam. After the ceremony we all ascended to The Wall to place the roses and pay our respects to our loved ones, classmates, fellow soldiers, and to each of the names on The Wall. The USMA Class of 1963 also invited us to a beautiful Reception back at the Army Navy Country Club. There we meet more people and heard more stories. I was so proud to hear about my uncle - his devotion to God, his love and talent for swimming at West Point, and to see the way these men held my uncle in the highest respects. I feel truly blessed to have been able to attend this event, and especially to be able to attend with my father.

The Dewee Family!
Last Sunday Kweyonouh and Benjamin Dewee were baptized! I had the honor of speaking at their baptism. What a wonderful family the Dewee's are! The mom, Esther, was baptized several months ago. She has the greatest testimony and enthusiasm. Her spirit is so contagious that I have no doubt she will be a great missionary throughout her life. The Dewee kids all play soccer like super stars. In fact, their oldest boy, Lester, trains with DC United and spends a lot of time training overseas. Kweyonouh and Benjamin are not too far behind themselves. I love when they pray because they always are sure to pray for soccer!

My LONG time childhood friend Diane Duffy was married November 3rd in the Washington, DC Temple. It was just lovely. I was so glad to see her family, several of which I had not seen in many, many years. Diane married an El Salvadorian Australian - meaning by blood he is El Salvadorian but he was raised in Australia - is that not the coolest? =) He even has the accent. So without further ado, my new favorite couple...
